I keep forgetting you're someone who's used to living in space and stuff. important question: if you're on a space station like this one, is there a full moon?
(ooc: I asked the mods here about how this works. <3)
There aren't any planets, much less moons, anywhere near our location. So I wouldn't assume that'd be an issue while we're here. On different planets we visit, however, that could change.
But any planet with a moon would have its own cycle, anyway. So if your specific lycanthropy - and I assume you're asking me this for that reason - is connected to the cycle of the planet you're from, I don't know how that could translate here.
[Sabriel's gift for Yzak is wrapped in dark blue paper, and wrapped with a silver ribbon. Inside is a Charter magic spellbook, discussing various forms of combat magic, and a handgun holster, the leather carved into an elaborate, floral design.
There is also a silver charm of wires wrapped and twisted into the shape of a key, and imbued with a protective charm. Unlike the rest of the items, this is something Sabriel made herself.]
turning this into action because I can and also need to gift reciprocate!!!
[On the evening of the 24th, Clara will leave a small present for Yzak at his door. It's a travel size magnetic chess set, with a note taped onto the package.
Thought we could play a game or two sometime. It might also be fun to bring on missions to help with the stress.
- Clara
There's also a bag of homemade sweets that she made for him to enjoy, something sweet to snack on.]
[Sometime before Christmas, Yzak will find a little wrapped box, one that says 'TO: YZAK' and a dinosaur drawn wearing a tie and glasses next to 'FROM'. There's very little doubt who wrote that in gold sharpie on the top, sad to say.
But anyway!
Upon opening it, there's a good luck bracelet to be found.
[Blue has come to be very keen on kisses, turns out. granted, he had Jim of all people to sell him on the idea at the onset, leaving a very strong first impression. still, the novelty has yet to fade, and has instead only become something to want more of as things have gotten dire. aside from Finn, he won't be getting the comfort of a shared mental connection, will he? but a kiss...it does scratch a similar itch.
that said, roaming hands are stalled for a bit while he imposes on Yzak's mouth a little longer, but eventually he does return to it, pressing palm and fingers against his side, hesitating only with the thought to ask--]
[ Sore? Good question. Since everything changed, it's been pretty rough-and-tumble - from the very start in Yzak's case what with his immediate, unlucky wrong place at the wrong time run-in with those rock dragons. On top of today's rather uneventful search that he might have stretched out a little longer than he should have because he wanted to find something, there's more overall fatigue than specific soreness set in him. There's a couple of areas of his body that have been bruised up by now from maneuvering about outside, a couple of small cuts here and there, but aside from his face... ]
Maybe just a bit there, near your hand. [ He lets out a tiny, thoughtful noise against Blue's mouth, and just above his left hand paused is where he slammed himself while getting away from those rock dragons so he didn't end up in a worse state. The bruising is deeper from the impact, the area slightly swollen. ] But it's not that bad. [ At least, not enough that it's hindered him beyond maybe aggravating him if he moved in his sleep wrong. He might not have considered it at all if Blue hadn't asked.
He slides his own hand around Blue's shoulders up to rest at the back of his neck, warm. He gives a gentle little squeeze, encouraging him on. ]
[it's pointed out affectionately, hardly an admonishment. he's just pointing out what's happened - why they're here in this place of Yzak's subconscious choosing.
he's behind him, wrapping his arms around his waist and resting his chin on his shoulder, adapting to the shift to this dreamed-up space with the grace and ease he lacks in external elements. it makes him stronger and more confident.
[ Look, he was tired, okay? Sometimes when he really needs to, he dozes off - he's done so his fair share of times on his battleship in his chair, during those stretches where there was hardly any time to rest at all. ]
I did?
[ It's odd slipping into sleep next to Blue, hearing his voice, to being in a dream, next to Blue, hearing his voice. That's why he's briefly thrown until he looks around, because it barely feels like a shift at all with that familiarity still so close to him.
But it clearly is a shift. They're in the (big) yard of a (fancy) two-level house, walled and gated. It's clear they're on a space colony, the skeleton of the transparent walls of it are visible around them, and there's a huge, towering metal pillar shooting straight up in the the distance - around where the center would be. But everything else about it feels as real as a planet would. The gentle breeze, an occasional owl hooting. It's nighttime, so through the PLANT's transparent walls is a view into the starry space that surrounds them, including the Earth which they orbit, near and bright and blue.
The yard is well-tended to, hedges neatly trimmed, variety of flowers planted in an orderly fashion, probably a fountain and a pond out here, too. It's showy! ]
... I did.
[ His gaze shifts from the garden bed nearest to him to the house proper. He's home.
[Blue shifts a little where he's settled against Yzak so he can lift his wrist - the one he got from Lan Xichen, the one Yzak would help tie up back in Badrock.
Blue's learned a few Choice things about the ribbon since then, so he can't help but be curious just how much ribbing Yzak's gotten for it...]
[ Yzak peeks down at his wrist. Ah, that ribbon. Blue's kept it on since the mission, even though there was really no need to keep up anything having to do with their stories anymore.
(................. including the dress part)
((would he prefer the dress being kept over the ribbon?))
(((hm))) ]
Xichen's ribbon?
[ That does make him recall Badrock and his "in character" interactions with Xichen. So at the memories, he scowls. ]
Not really anymore! But that bastard sure had a lot of fun playing the part of your brother back there! Going on about my indecent intentions toward his sister!
[ Bastard, he says, but as always like this, the word is devoid of any ill-will. He actually likes Xichen a great deal. Outside of their act, he managed to gain quite a bit of Yzak's respect when things started to go south. ]
[for how much Blue sleeps now, getting a restful, uninterrupted amount of it seems unfit for this place. point-in-case: somewhere in the night, his body begins to shake, breaking into a cold sweat - one that doesn't linger long enough to spark an investigation. not until he's gasped loudly and roused himself from that sleep with the surprise, rolling over and away from Yzak as he's set upon by a small fit of coughing that sucking back air like that yielded. he trembles even after-the-fact, the disruption really having rattled him in a way he hadn't expected, and a way he can't recover from while feeling so blind.
he might still be dreaming, after all: there's no feedback beyond the tactile senses.]
[ Adjusting to sleeping comfortably next to somebody else wasn't as difficult as Yzak imagined it'd be. Insomuch of ways of it feeling so nice, anyway. That part of it became pretty addicting pretty fast! To the point where he gets fussily weird and cold in a way only Blue can help on whatever nights he's alone.
Staying asleep, however, hadn't been as easy to adjust to - is still something Yzak is adjusting to. Which is no fault of Blue's, but rather because Yzak is used to being a light sleeper. When one has to be up and moving and alert at a moment's notice and on a battlefield within minutes of that, it's a hard sleeping habit to break. So sometimes all it takes is a little fidget or a readjustment against him to briefly stir him from rest. It's always brief, though, and Yzak is always able to fall right back to sleep, sometimes not even remembering it had happened at all.
So tonight? It's that first gasp that draws Yzak into waking, and by the time Blue has rolled over and started coughing, Yzak is bolting to sit upward, rattled and trying to gauge what's going on in the darkness. Is something happening again...? Like that night on Badrock when they had to escape those bandits? ]
What is it -
[ Voice cracked slightly from quickly dissipating grogginess, he can at least immediately make out that nobody else is in their room as a hand instinctively reaches out to lay on Blue's shoulder. ]
[It happens quite suddenly — a soft buzzing static that ebbs and flows for a moment like breathing, just before the jumbled mess of text that appears before Yzak's eyes turns into something somewhat legible.]
[ That's something he's never heard through the earpiece. So it not only catches Yzak off guard, causing him to flinch and scrunch up his face, but it completely grabs his attention. ]
What the fuck...
[ He squints, focusing on that odd jumble of text that appears to almost glitch into view. For a moment it looks like nothing, until he can make out a word ... a couple of words...? From...
...their room, right? either way, it's where Blue asked to be now that he's free of the tubes for a time, and while he's weary, the change of location has done much for his morale. he sighs contentedly, sinking against the pillows, clean and cozy thanks to Yzak's care, still a little tingly in the skin just from the feeling of all that emotional energy fixated on him.]
[ The big question here is: how much spaghetti has been spilled between the time of Blue tells Yzak he would like to stay with him and right now? A general ballpark of "a lot" would be a correct assumption to make, because of all of the in-between filler.
Flustered "y-you're sure!?"s and concerned asks of if it was okay now when he's got to get so much more rest and spend so much more time in the infirmary, it's fine if they put it off until next downtime. (all with the buzzing beneath him that Blue could feel of an elated, nervous excitement of oh shit oh fuck oh god he wants this, this is BIG and IMPORTANT with those familiar fluttery feelings that he's gotten at any other similar point in their relationship - where it feels like it's morphing into something even more beautiful yet still retaining all the beauty that began it) And then came the absolutely unnecessary urge to ensure his room and how he took care of it was WORTHY of BLUE (Yzak he's there all the time anyway), but when you're someone who's always strived to look presentable, that just kind of kicks in automatically.
From things like meticulously moving things around to make room (unless they just straight up move to a two-person-room and throw out one of the beds because we do what we want), ensuring that everything feels right and in place and then the actual moving of shit (which let's be real, Yzak's doing all of that because what can Blue lift right now when he can barely keep his own head up smh), it's a process! A process full of that constant, excited buzz, lots of idiotic but probably accidentally endearingly awkward blushing and a whole lot of determination and Coordinator energy to actually work.
Lucky for Blue - and something he's more than aware of by now - is that he inadvertently inherits lots of soft, comfortable plush pillows because Yzak likes that particular sort of coziness himself.
Feeling yet another soft thump in his heart at my Yzak, he sits at the edge of the bed after the last of the adjustments. (which is probably the wind chime, done with that same fussiness of PLACEMENT and where Blue prefers as the first time) ]
Really. [ His expression softens as he looks at him, the change clearly affecting Yzak too. Even though his heart was always fully in this, the way Blue sinks into the pillows is similar to the way that his being more deeply sinks into Yzak's heart now. ]
Good. [ There's an earnest relief in his voice when he speaks that. ]
[ On the day of Yzak's birthday, once he gets to his room, he will find a small present wrapped in bright pink seaweed - no wrapping paper under the sea, sorry- waiting for him there with a card attached.
Happy b-day to the best sugar daddy out there! ♥
Says the card. It's not signed, but it shouldn't take long for Yzak to figure out it's from Peter. The guardian knows that he tries to keep souvenirs from the planets they visit, and that Yzak also likes bolo ties. Once he opens the gift, he will find a nautically inspired one and next to it, a pair of Flaming Pixie Cups filled with the Xrisora's equivalent of wine. ]
[ He can tell who this is from immediately with the sugar daddy quip. And to that, Yzak lets out a heavy, exasperated sigh.
But then he opens the gift, and it's good that he happens to be alone here at the moment, because he looks touched when he sees what he's been given. He and Peter had spoken of bolo ties so long ago ... on Badrock, wasn't it? The fact that he remembers that, the fact that he remembered today and went out of his way to do something nice for him...
Well.
It's much easier to worm your way into Yzak's heart than he makes it seem. ]
Both hand and mind reach out to the orb once Xephia offers it to him. Before he even makes contact, Yzak can already feel his heart slamming against his chest, fear and hope both pumping through his veins, exhilarating and powerful as he faces this unknown head on. All this time he's chased this unknown, not even knowing if it was real, whether or not he could even catch it if it was, or if it would just tease him, leading him along futiley until it was too late.
Now here he stands, finally having caught it.
And Yzak seizes what he's searched for for so long, his will unwavering, palm pressing against the glowing entity.
He feels the familiar, sharp pull of being transported back to the Ximilia, but to him it does not feel like the blink of a moment that it feels like to the rest of the team. He'll probably never know how to properly describe those few seconds that seem to stretch on for so much longer. It's as if in that instance he and the orb simply understand each other, feelings, wants and concepts drifting between them as a proper exchange is calculated and agreed upon.
Well, "proper." Viveca did warn him that the price would likely be more than what's being asked for.
But he'll give what of himself is required to fulfill Blue's own wish for more time.
Because Blue doesn't want to die.
And because I don't want to lose him.
Within the tumultuous swirl of emotion and thought is a clarity, like the calm at the eye of a hurricane. Yzak doesn't forget what he promised himself, what he promised Blue. If it required too much, asked for something that would just switch their positions or saddle Blue with guilt for the extent of his life ... this will just end. It'll end and Blue's life will end soon after and Yzak will be alone, feeling as though half of his own soul has been torn away from him.
So begins the bargaining. It's not just Blue's time that's winding down. It's his body that erodes right along with it. Flesh and blood; more life will require those things to be relinquished to the orb as payment.
And Yzak relinquishes them.
But the price the orb requires isn't just the flesh and blood in the form of his right arm that's about to be torn away from him - and when it is the pain is hot and searing. It's as if what Blue's gone through over all this time hits him at once, to show him firsthand how agonizing it's been for the Mu.
Agonizing, but he endures it as he's long promised to accept the pains that come as easily as happiness does, because there is no light without its shadows. He's long decided not to shy away from it anymore, so he does not look away from it now. And it serves to bolster his resolve in this, because it's that very agony he wants to free him from.
Life, however, also requires time, so Yzak is required to give that up as payment, too. And he does, however much that may be, because what is a lifespan halved when one never knows how long they're destined to have anyway? As a soldier that could be days, weeks, months. It could also be years or decades if he's lucky and peace manages to bloom from a bloodstained ground and thrive. But Yzak considers his own time borrowed anyway, and no longer wholly his own. He's only alive at all due to sheer luck and knows full well that he should have died long ago for the sins he committed. Sins that are now eternally etched into his heart to carry. So this life of his, while still precious to him because it's his, is now dedicated to others; his people, his family and friends, those still alive and to honor those who've perished.
In order to make a difference, he has to use the life that he's still so lucky to have and stretch it as far as it can be stretched for that sake. So for the sake of someone this important to him, someone who's come to be more precious to him than anything else, of course Yzak can give up fragments of himself to make his wish come true
They return to the station, and the price is paid.
[ yet another flyer ends up on every orber's door, evidently by the same culprit as last time, except now it's a more colorful display:
the back of the flyer features more details about the play and its characters, and soon enough, an announcement from rita herself goes public, giving more context about the event, which all can sign up for. ]
[ Ironic. He wishes he didn't have to think about the reason why he needs to do this because he still can't without it hurting. There is only hurt, though, no regret, with a sprinkle of anger both outward at fate and inward to himself because he can't not have the feelings that bubble up inside him. That this had to feel so pointless because he could not even obtain the temporary happiness he was okay settling for in return.
But he has to think about this, because he has to adjust, adapt, so he can continue being an asset to the team instead of a burden. And if he can at least accomplish what he came here for...
Well, he most likely won't remember to be proud of it any more than he won't remember this chasm that's opened up in his heart. And if he can reach that end sooner rather than later instead of letting his mind wander, think desperately of what he would give up to change the things that awaited him at the end of this journey and wonder if he's actually fucking crazy enough to offer them... ]
Marta.
[ The first text comes, and it's only a couple of moments before it's followed by: ]
I'm finishing dinner right now. I should be done by the time you get to my room.
[ He's pretty sure Yzak wouldn't want him bringing up what he witnessed so he's not even going to hint at it by acting differently. He'll act the same as he always has. ]
You expressed interest in learning about the old crew should we come across them in a future mission. Have you compiled a list yet?
I'm juggling that with the final stages of getting my prosthetic set and seeing where the best place to start is with what we have compiled thus far of archives of our own past missions.
[ A busy bee, as always. ]
I'm not sure if we'll end up getting every name matched to a face or much more beyond that, but I'll do what I can so the information is there if we need it.
...
Did you see it, too? When we were returning to the station. [ That final memory of Degar and Viveca. ]

soft time
...their room, right? either way, it's where Blue asked to be now that he's free of the tubes for a time, and while he's weary, the change of location has done much for his morale. he sighs contentedly, sinking against the pillows, clean and cozy thanks to Yzak's care, still a little tingly in the skin just from the feeling of all that emotional energy fixated on him.]
Thank you, my Yzak. I do feel a lot better.
S O M F T

[ During the 'Wish full' - Mer mission | Action ]
Happy b-day to the best sugar daddy out there! ♥
Says the card. It's not signed, but it shouldn't take long for Yzak to figure out it's from Peter. The guardian knows that he tries to keep souvenirs from the planets they visit, and that Yzak also likes bolo ties. Once he opens the gift, he will find a nautically inspired one and next to it, a pair of Flaming Pixie Cups filled with the Xrisora's equivalent of wine. ]
no subject
But then he opens the gift, and it's good that he happens to be alone here at the moment, because he looks touched when he sees what he's been given. He and Peter had spoken of bolo ties so long ago ... on Badrock, wasn't it? The fact that he remembers that, the fact that he remembered today and went out of his way to do something nice for him...
Well.
It's much easier to worm your way into Yzak's heart than he makes it seem. ]
at the conclusion of the wish full mission
They return to the station, and the price is paid.

the back of the flyer features more details about the play and its characters, and soon enough, an announcement from rita herself goes public, giving more context about the event, which all can sign up for. ]

Second of all, whatst the fuck,
In either case, Yzak's own feelings aside, this is still a team member with their own apprehension about their grand mission here. ]
I think that would depend on what you're trying to change by being here.
But yes, of course it's possible to change something. That's simply a fact of life.

It worked out, because with less needed for space travel we could focus on making more room for shorter trips.
[ A small pause between what he adds next. ]
Not every native there who planned to leave were able to do so in time. But an admirable number made it, considering the timeframe we were given.
We did well.

{ audio } un: joric, a few days after their return from the past station
[ He's pretty sure Yzak wouldn't want him bringing up what he witnessed so he's not even going to hint at it by acting differently. He'll act the same as he always has. ]
You expressed interest in learning about the old crew should we come across them in a future mission. Have you compiled a list yet?
no subject
I'm juggling that with the final stages of getting my prosthetic set and seeing where the best place to start is with what we have compiled thus far of archives of our own past missions.
[ A busy bee, as always. ]
I'm not sure if we'll end up getting every name matched to a face or much more beyond that, but I'll do what I can so the information is there if we need it.
...
Did you see it, too? When we were returning to the station. [ That final memory of Degar and Viveca. ]
