Yzak Jule Yzak's hair is smooth and shiny, but his personality is rather rough. He's always yelling, and hates when he's not number one. In short, he may be the type of person who gets lonely when he's not the center of attention or in the spotlight. People with that sort well-bred upbringing tend to seek attention. They who want to be liked by others will become easily attached to others. That's why he's quite fond of people. He broke down when they lost Nicol. When he parted ways with Athrun in the previous work, he promised they'd meet again. He dutifully visits the graveyard. He reached his hand out to Athrun and told him to come home. Behind his gruffness, the real essence of his humanity comes through. To be human, to be straightforwardly honest, this could sometimes be seen as a drawback for a military commander. But the cool Dearka makes up for that. Yzak would surely say something like "Idiot! It'd be the same without him!" But in his heart, he's surely relying on him.
Dearka Elthman Why is Dearka always around Yzak? It's a bit of a mystery. Miriallia seems to be just fine even if she's left alone, but when it comes to Yzak, one can't be sure how he'll act when you turn your eyes away from him, though it's not as if Dearka thought "well then, it looks like I'll have to stay with him," because he seems to be enjoying his role as Yzak's partner. It may have been fortunate for him that he defected during the last war and was condemned and demoted to a green uniform. If he had climbed the ranks enough, he would have been wearing white like Yzak and in a position to lead his own "Elthman Team." For a somewhat frivolous person like him, a white uniform would be a bit constricting. While the hot-blooded Yzak takes charge from the rear, the cool Dearka serves as head of the special attack force. So his current position is quite great (written as GUREITO, I must note this). Under Yzak, he can feel at ease, crack jokes, and has freedom. Whether he had any of that under Miri's thumb is something only he knows.
