[Dearka somberly crunches on a stick of pocky while he listens. The flavor's a fair bit more... Floral than he expected? The pink box had him thinking they were a strawberry variety, but as he glances at the package more closely he realizes that isn't the case, and they are in fact rose. Weird... Not objectionable, though.
Anyway, he's in kind of an unfortunate position with all of this. He really needs to be in Yzak's corner about this, and Yzak has every right to be angry... But the way he'd reacted to the situation certainly hadn't done either of them any favors, either.]
I get it, but barging into the conversation horns-first wasn't really a great method of handling things...? You react that strongly to someone who just thinks they're having a bit of fun, joking around and all, and they're bound to get defensive and pissed off as a result, y'know?
And I'm bound to get pissed off when people are saying that shit about me - about us - where everyone can see it, joke or not. If someone can't handle being told that what they're saying isn't actually funny and to cut it the hell out, then they maybe they shouldn't mouth off in the first place!
At least it worked and they shut up, which is more than can be said for those attempts at deflection.
[ Because WHO kept entertaining the conversation in the first place, HMMMM? ]
[Dearka lets out a startled and incredulous laugh at that. Or... It sounds more like a grunt, really, wearing the poorly crafted mask of a laugh.]
You seriously think that worked? Now they're just going to be even more wound up about it and give us even more grief, because you gave them a reaction they can keep picking at. And to top it all off, Lucy's pissed off at us... She fucking blocked me on LINE mid-conversation, can you believe that? Friggin' oversensitive teenagers...
[He's irritated. Irritated with Yzak, even, for not seeing what feels like the obvious truth of the situation??? Which is not a place he wants to be at, but he just really wishes he had just trusted him and not gone looking at those messages...
As far as the bit about Lucy is concerned, he's trying to play it off like he doesn't actually care, when... He really clearly does.]
[ Really Dearka what else did you expect sending those ominously vague messages in the first place?
Ironically, he's not AS irritated himself anymore because to him? It was open and shut, fucking stupid as it was. Attitudes about it or not, he went, he yelled, it stopped, and he made his point very clear. From that he has the (hopefully not overly optimistic) assumption that it won't happen again, and that's enough of an amends to him. ]
Nobody's going to do a thing if they have even a shred of respect. And if anyone tries, maybe you can consider just not engaging with it where everybody can see it because that was why things even got that far! [ Since even he can concede that people can talk about whatever the fuck they want like that, but you know, amongst themselves and not on a public network where the whole organization can see, ]
Lucy can be pissed off all she wants, she'll get over it. I'm already over it since I made it clear that I didn't appreciate that shit. You just said it yourself, oversensitive teenagers! Who shouldn't have their noses in anyone's business like that in the first place.
[Part of him bristles automatically at the implication that this is in ANY way his fault. Normally he's pretty used to just letting this kind of thing slide off him without any fuss, but... He's grouchy, and he's feeling kind of wounded in more ways than he'd care to admit. It takes some extra effort not to say something snitty and churlish that he would probably immediately regret. And even with that effort, he winds up grumbling a little defensively:]
I was just trying to keep up a rapport...
[He wants to criticize further, ask why the heck Yzak thought it was appropriate to go disproportionately nuclear on those guys... But then he remembers he never actually saw the conversation? Whatever went down between Yzak and Lucy was locked in a private DM, and Dearka only has her side of the story right now. He fishes out another stick of pocky and pops it in his mouth, side-eyeing Yzak thoughtfully.]
...The hell did you say to Lucy anyway? She said you threatened her.
[His tone implies that he's skeptical of that, because now that he thinks more clearly on it it DOES seem a bit outside the scope of Yzak's usual method of handling things these days.]
[ He not the only one feeling stung here. Yzak's personal life is enough of a point of gossip back home as it is from what he's heard, he doesn't want it to feel like one big acceptable joke here, too. Especially after being promised discretion for now, exactly because of how sensitive and confusing things are while this is still brand new and cracking a foundation he's been settled on for a long time.
And he hates feeling sensitive and confused about it all too, so it's a back and forth twisting in his gut between guilt and the intense desire for it to disappear. That just leaves his expression as tight and uncomfortably upset as his posture.
And then that expression only pinches more, and he tips his head. ]
Haaah? What the hell do you mean threatened!? I said it already! I just told her to talk about whatever crap she wanted to but to keep my name out of it!
[Hearing that is a relief, but it also gives way to more confusion. "Threatened" had certainly been the word Lucy used. But if Yzak's telling the truth, why the heck would she say that? If there's one thing Yzak isn't, it's a liar.
...Clearly, Dearka should've had more faith in him from the start.]
Hey, alright, I believe you. So I guess she was exaggerating...?
[He huffs and runs his fingers through his greased up hair, before looking up at Yzak apologetically.]
...Do you mind letting me see the conversation? If I try to patch things up with her, I want to know all the facts, I guess.
[As he says this, he holds out the box of pocky. An offer of good will.]
[ His mouth slacks slightly into more of an irritated pout, his nose still wrinkled, like he's considering biting back more like a cornered animal. But Dearka's words and expression dampen that sparking, reactive upset.
It still somehow, despite being over the network, feels like an item being shoved sharply into a person's hand when he sends Dearka what he asks for. Yzak does so with a grumbling noise in his throat as he snatches the offered box of pocky. He turns about halfway around as he looks at it - it's not white chocolate, but ... rose still sounds perfectly acceptable. He fishes two sticks out to snap the ends of them off with his teeth. ]
[Dearka frowns and stares into nothing as he takes a moment to read what he's sent; it doesn't exactly take long, as it's not a long conversation to begin with, but he does make the effort to re-read it all a few times over. Carefully. Just to make extra sure he's not missing anything.
And... Yeah, there isn't a single threat in any of these messages? Just Yzak being firm, and Lucy being belligerent. Which frankly leaves him even more confused than he was before.]
...You actually handled yourself pretty damn well, I'd say. Which makes her reaction make even less sense than it already did.
[Dearka raises an eyebrow. Citation fucking needed.
...But also, No Comment. After a beat, he sighs and gestures with one hand, as if Yzak didn't interject just now.]
Anyway, I guess it doesn't really matter if it makes sense or not, since she fucking blocked me on LINE anyway. So it's not like I can ask her about it.
[ HE IS! Which is why he crunches at his pocky a little too hard, finishes off the two joined sticks quickly before pulling one more out. It's also why he sounds maybe a little too dismissive when he replies. ]
Are you done now? Because I think I've had enough humiliation and third degree for one day!
[ He juts the box of pocky back toward him to take. ]
